Music and Rituals

My faith has always been a big part of life ever since I was little. That being said, going to church every Sunday has always been a priority in my family. In most church services, there is always worship music. Worship music is a type of music that will always ground me and remind me of how good and faithful God is. When I was in middle school, it was the time period when I was getting more serious in the hobbies I participated in when I was younger. For example, playing volleyball started to become something I practiced five days out of the week, and tournaments were now almost every weekend. Another thing I participated a lot in was playing the drums. This skill ended up giving me the opportunity to play in the worship band. At this time, my family and I were going to a Spanish-speaking church. Therefore, when I played the drums, it was all in Spanish. This experience for me is something I do not talk about a lot because it seems like so long ago. However, it is something that I am glad I got to do and how I was able to serve my church. Looking back at this time in my life, I do have moments where I miss being on the worship team and playing with my sister, who played the piano in that same worship team. Here is a video of me playing the drums in 2018.

As I got older, playing the drums was not something I was able to really keep up with because of how much volleyball consumed my time. However, worship music, both in English and Spanish, continued to play a really important part in my life. I love being able to share worship music with others. When you really pay attention to the lyrics, this type of music often talks about how much Jesus loves us. I love worship music so much and am blessed by it each time. Now that I am not on the worship team, I now enjoy being in the audience and listening to the worship music played at my church every Sunday. Since I know what it is like to be on the worship team for a church, I know how much effort, time, and dedication is put in each week. Knowing this makes me appreciate it even more.

I was not raised with any religious background, nor do i have much experience with religion, but I enjoyed reading and listening to your blog. It opened up my eyes and my perspective! I want to applaud you for being on the worship team, that's really cool! Great blog!

  2. Hi Emmy! Growing up I had similar traditions of going to Church on Sunday's and going around holiday, as well! I always loved the spirit of worship music, and it just sounds and brings a powerful presence. I also love love love that you played the drums growing up! As we talked about in class, I feel like when most people think of drums they think of men, and it always makes me happy seeing a woman playing the drums:)

  4. Hi Emmy! I really enjoyed reading about your experiences with church and how the music impacts your worship. I've never heard worship music in the Spanish language before, but it's really cool that your worship band incorporated the drums! It's much different from the music I heard in my grandmother's church. Thank you for sharing! :)
