Music and Me
My name is Emmy Estrada, and I am on the volleyball team at Converse. I am a sophomore transfer and am originally from Jacksonville, Florida. At home, I really enjoy going to the beach with my friends and family. Last year I played volleyball at a college in Syracuse, New York and suffered an injury there that took me out for the season. Therefore, I am excited to be closer to home and play the sport that I love again. At Converse, I love hanging out with my team and getting to know each of my teammates more everyday. I am studying chemistry and am hoping to attend PA school to be a physician’s assistant in orthopedics.
1. My go-to is any music by Bad Bunny. I am Puerto Rican, and I love listening to Puerto Rican artists, whether the songs are older or newer. Puerto Rico is known for having really talented musicians and artists, and I grew up listening to a lot of the classics. Bad Bunny is definitely a more current artist in Puerto Rico, and I went to one of his concerts this year in May with my boyfriend and some of my family. At this concert in Orlando, Florida, I was able to see just a small piece of my culture, and it was so fun and definitely an experience I will always remember. I hope to be able to go to one of his concerts again whether that is in the United States or even in Puerto Rico. Ever since the concert, I end up listening to a lot of the songs he played at the concert repeatedly.
2. Christian music is very meaningful to me and always grounds me. It has always been apart of my life and now that I am older I really value it and find comfort in listening to it. It is important to me because my faith is the most important thing in my life. If you really pay attention to the words in Christian music, it really tells you about how good God is in all of our lives and how you are never too far gone for His love. I have always had a special place in my heart for worship and am so thankful for it.
3. I do not really connect with any music by Taylor Swift. In my opinion, for all of the fame and attention that is brought to her music, I do not really find any appeal to it and do not see the “hype” around her music. I have tried listening to some of her songs, especially around my friends who really like her and her music, but unfortunately, no matter how hard I try, I really cannot seem to enjoy her music. Since I have tried a various amount of times to find some enjoyment in her music, I have given up and do not think anyone can change my opinion. I do not think it is anything against Taylor Swift herself, but it is really just her songs in general that I cannot connect to.

Emmy, I loved that you included a Christian song and I have now added that song to my playlist. I totally agree that as we have gotten older Christian and Gospel music is very comforting and helps in times we need it most. Referring to your final article I will agree that Taylor Swift is not something that interests me, listening to the song I quickly began to lose interest no matter how hard I tried to listen and understand the lyrics. I know so many people who love her music and try to convince me that her music is enjoyable but as you said I have tried numerous time and cannot seem to connect with her music.
ReplyDeleteHey Emmy, it is interesting that I also don't get the hype over Taylor Swift. She does have a good voice, but as you said I too do not like her songs. I like that you included a Christan song and told how it was important to you.
ReplyDeleteHi Emmy! I love how you included Christian Music in your blog. I am glad that faith is very important to you because I think having faith is everything. I also don't like Taylor Swift. I feel like there's nothing really mesmerizing about her music that could wow me. I kind of feel like her music it stuck in the 2010's in my opinion.
